GCSE, IGCSE, A-level and Proficiency Exams Support

With a good knowledge of the exam specifications, I offer full support and guidance to help prepare students for exams of different levels.  The success of the teaching methods used, including the use of different teaching platforms has been reflected in the continuous high results each year.

GCSE and IGCSE

With an extensive knowledge of the requirements of both GCSE and IGCSE examinations, with all exam boards, students know that they will be provided with full support and advice to fulfil their potential.

Lessons include weekly vocabulary tests to help with the 4 skill areas, listening, reading, speaking and writing. We  focus on grammar using books, the Internet with advice on useful apps.  Students are offered advice so they know exactly how to improve in the written and spoken areas from an examiner's point of view by looking at mark schemes.

Students will complete mock exams so they know what the exam papers are like and how they are marked.

In addition to lessons, students are able to contact me between lessons with any questions or extra support at no extra charge, as a 'lifeline'

The GCSE exam will be changing from September 2015, and will involve a different grading system and exam format.  Students will complete a writing and speaking exam at the end of the course in addition to the listening and reading exams, as a replacement for controlled assessments.  I have a full knowledge of these changes and can offer full support with these new specifications.

CEFR based exams

Very popular with adult learners, I am pleased to offer support for the different proficiency exams available for different languages such as the JPLT test for Japanese or the DELF examination for French or even IELTS for English as a foreign language.  With a good knowledge of the requirements, students can be assured they will receive the help and support they need.

All aspects of the exam are explored for all skill areas which include listening, speaking, reading and writing.  Various resources are used including  textbooks, the Internet and recommended applications. 




A-level and IB

With a strong knowledge of all the exam boards and a strong focus on all skill areas, looking closely at the topic areas related to the specification, students can build their confidence to help them achieve.

We look at grammar using the Internet, books and apps and look at how to structure essays effectively with a written assignment set each week as homework.  We also focus on advanced vocabulary and expressions so that students can speak and write in a more mature way, as expected in the final exam.

For the speaking exam we focus on intonation, complexity of speech and accuracy of the grammar when spoken as these are areas students can find difficult.

For the listening and reading exams, we look closely at articles in the target language and listening extracts online and how we can interpret these.  We also carry out regular translation tasks so we can look at techniques and increase knowledge of vocabulary.

​These exams are usually available through Universities in other countries and can be completed all over the UK.  There several dates  to choose from to take the exam, so you can usually take it when you are ready.  The tests are at different level from beginner to advanced.

Students can be reassured that they will receive the full help and support they require and homework is set every week, to prepare for weekly vocabulary tests and for the writing exam.
